Can you imagine my disappointment when one of my favourite friends picked a restaurant to go to for our long overdue catch up only for it to be somewhere I had promised not to go back to because I had such bad cramps after eating there the last time?
I used to really struggle because I didn't actually know what was causing the problem.
I think back to the symptoms I used to get, bloating, heaviness and the trapped wind was the worst!
They're not easy things to talk about but they were definitely very real.
I'd seen the doctor and thankfully they gave mebeverine hydrochloride and peppermint capsules to help dampen some of the painful symptoms of what they diagnosed as IBS.
But was that it? Rely on this medication that wasn't even able to get rid of all my symptoms? I couldn't help wondering if there was anything about it so I can just have a break and eat more freely?
I wanted to be able to go out and enjoy a meal so I could focus on the actual catch up with my friend and enjoy our precious time together rather than stress over how I was going to feel afterwards - or not even wait til after - there were time I had to get up in the middle of the meal and use the bathroom - my symptoms could be immediate at times.
It wasn't until I was armed with a list of what I was intolerant to that things started to change for me. My pattern of symptoms made a lot more sense and they began to reduce drastically as I improved my lifestyle, avoiding trigger foods.
I felt much better equipped to make choices so that I could still have tasty options and enjoy the whole evening out - both during and after!
I'm passionate about helping other people get relief from all kinds of symptoms that they think they have to live with, especially frustratingly uncomfortable digestive complaints!!
